Computer Keyboard

Split keyboard, ergonomic keyboard, standard keyboard - no matter what the keyboard style or design, most computer keyboards use the same technology.

A keyboard is a peripheral that holds a number of keys on a fixed base. An input device, a keyboard is used to "key" commands that the computer will execute. Of course, the most common function of the keyboard is for typing information into a word processing software.

How a Keyboard Works

As soon as you tap on a key or keys of the keyboard, the processor in the keyboard analyses the key matrix. It keeps the data in it's memory buffer and in split seconds, sends the data to the computer for processing. The information that was inputted is transmitted from the keyboard through the keyboard cable to the keyboard controller. The keyboard controller will then pass the information to the operating system. The operating system will then determine whether the data is a content or a command. Then the operating system will pass the keyboard data to the current application.
